Bocking Mill is situated in Bocking Churchstreet which is a small hamlet attached to the northern edge of Braintree and not to be confused with Bocking, further to the south, which is now a suburb of Braintree.

Access to the mill is via a private drive, pedestrians only, which passes between houses on Church Street and is easy to miss. This drive is between Windmill Gardens and Millers Close, on the detail map above, almost opposite the unnamed turning on the opposite side of Church Street.

It is possible to go to the mill at any time to look around the outside but you can see inside only on one of the few days that it is open. Between the windmill and Windmill Gardens there is a signposted public footpath which goes between the houses onto the fields at the back and, if you keep left, you can get a good view of the mill across the fields.
