Looking into the small basin at the inner end of the lock on the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation,
Heybridge Basin. This is the last lock on the canal but there are 12 other locks between here and
Chelmsford.

Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation, Heybridge Basin.
This view was from the canal towpath which extends 14 miles, together with the canal of course, to Chelmsford passing through the outskirts of Maldon on the way. This canal first opened in 1797. Maldon can be seen on the hill in the background.
