  Picture of the Old Sail Lofts at high tide, Tollesbury, Essex, England   A similar view to that of the previous picture but with a high spring tide. The road has now disappeared under water despite these buildings being a quarter mile from the waterside.

You can, perhaps, understand why these lofts are built off the ground. Being on the seaward side of the sea wall they are affected by high spring tides.
