|The Blacksmiths Arms Inn, Offham, Lewes, Sussex
We stayed at the Blacksmiths Arms for the duration of our visit to Lewes in June 2009.
||I made our booking by telephone and received confirmation by email. We arrived just about lunch time and settled into
our room. The bedroom wasn't cramped but neither was it very well lit from a smallish window with trees fairly close outside which
tended to obscure the light. The bathroom was well lit with natural light from the window which actually made the bedroom a lot
brighter when the bathroom door was open. The bathroom was well appointed and of a good size, both the bathroom and bedroom
were well decorated and spotlessly clean and there was a decent amount of storage space in the bedroom.
We chose the Blacksmiths Arms because hotels with parking in Lewes did seem to be a bit on the expensive side and it wasn't
easy to find a B&B with parking space. Offham is only two miles from Lewes town centre so it would be walkable and the bus stops
right outside the inn with buses around every half-hour. It also gave convenient access to the surrounding points of interest.
We also chose the Blacksmiths Arms because their web site, as well as advertising Bed & Breakfast, also advertises a
restaurant. What we didn't find out until we arrived was that the restaurant is closed on Sunday and Monday evenings.
There was no mention of that on their web site when I looked and we found that to be be rather annoying although that information has
now been added,.The proprietors told us that we had two alternatives - the Chalkpit Inn within walking distance or the Rainbow Inn which
would be a two mile drive. We contacted the Chalkpit Inn only to find it was not open that Sunday evening and it was also normally closed
on Monday evenings which the proprietors didn't know. We ended up at the Rainbow.
After the problems of trying to find somewhere to eat in the evening we finally had a meal here on our last evening and there's no doubt
that their food is excellent.
We do recommend the Blacksmiths Arms but you do need to know that you can't eat there Sunday and Monday evenings.
