The Groes Inn Location map

Photograph of the Groes In, Conwy, Caernarfonshire, Wales   We stayed in the 16th century Groes (pronounced Groice as in Choice) Inn on our last visit to Conwy in 2005. It is two miles south of Conwy in the Conwy Valley by the side of the B5106 which runs from Conwy to Betws-Y-Coed. It was on a very straight stretch of road, unusual for Wales to get a straight road anywhere, and consequently cars tended to go by very fast while they have the chance. Luckily it was only a minor road and so wasn't at all busy and at night the traffic dwindled to nothing. Traffic was really not a problem.

There is very little else in the vicinity and so it is generally nice and quiet. There are some super views of the River Conwy just across the road from the inn.

Photograph of the Groes In, Conwy, Caernarfonshire, Wales   The inn is divided into two buildings - bars and resturant in one and accomodation in the other. This means that to get from the bedrooms to the resturant you will have to go outside for a short distance. This didn't affect us at all because the weather was lovely but will have to be taken into account when the weather is bad.

Here you can see the accomodation building on the left with the bars and resturant building partly hidden by the trees.

Our room turned out to be very nice, larger than the standard hotel room, with a small seating area near the window and a well appointed bathroom. The scenery out of the bedroom window was very nice - looking across fields of grazing sheep to the hills at the back.

There is plenty of parking along the front of the accomodation building which means that you can unload your luggage and take it straight to your room with the minimum of walking. There is also a very large car park across the road.

It has a nice little residents resturant, separate from the bars, the food was excellent and the amounts prodigous.

We can thoroughly recommend this inn. They also have their own web site
