Comment about Cecil Court, Covent Garden, London
Hello My fathers aunt and her husband, the late Mr. John Grliffiths and Mrs Mary Griffiths ran Griffs Bookshop which was situated at 4 , Cecil Court. The bookshop was a sanctuary or heraith for Welsh people either living or visiting the city. Visitors and friends of theirs included Richard Burton and his wife Elizabeth Burton, poets of Wales including Dylan Thomas and the late artist Sir Kyffin Williams. There were 3 brothers from the Griffiths family who ran the shop, including John. John and Mary Griffiths lived in a 2 story flat in the neighbouring Goodwins Corurt, which they rented for £25 pounds from a farmer who owned it from Carmarthen! John always wore a bowler hat to work and had the shiniest black shoes I can remember! They retired in the late 70's and returned to Gilfach Goch, Wales.
