My father used to own the green grocers shop from which this picture is taken.This is long before the cafe was built .The horse towed canal barges came through the gate having disconnected from the barges and were walked up Aberdeen Place to meet up with the barges at the other end of the tunnel. There were no house boats moored as up to the early1960s this was a working canal.
