Comment about Castle Lodge, Ludlow, Shropshire

Visited this amazing Lodge today. The oak floors were worn with centuries of footfall and the panelling included the most amazing carvings. Unusual stained glass windows, design of the house, even the servants quarters had the most ornate plasterwork.

However , the discussion we had with the lady of the house, who was originally a well known ballerina and at the grand age of seventy something( I am not prepared to divulge her exact age)was still most elegant and beautiful, was the icing on the cake. So much so that I felt honour bound to look up even more information on this fantastically unusual private household.

This lovely lady and her husband obviously have a passion for this dwelling, and have spent their life savings on it. They appear to have had little help from Ludlow council or any other heritage department. It appears that they are flying by the seat of their pants and occasionly get bailed out by the BBC and other media programmes. It is refreshing to meet the owners of such ancient, historical houses and to know that they are still privately owned.

As a guest house owner I will be encouraging our guests to sponsor this wonderful couple by visiting this quirky, ancient building, unspoilt by National Trust beaurocracy. It is their HOME. Thankyou to you both. We were enthralled. We will be back for more!
