As a family we visit Devon each summer and we always, without fail, make a trip to visit Tarr Steps. The scenery is fabulous, the countryside quite breath-taking and the water great for the kids to have a splash around in. It's quite a mystical site but also a lovely family day out, without having to spend a fortune. Take a picnic and then take a leisurely stroll through the woodland along the riverbank. And if you really want to finish off your day, visit Tarr Farm for the most fantastic Devon Cream tea which is certainly one of my favourite parts of the day out! Despite other's comments, the staff are always very welcoming and the wait simply depends on the amount of other customers - but it's definitely worth the wait!

I think this is well cool, so much fun for me and my brother. LOL!

We had a fabulous day here. Scenery beautiful, we were lucky the weather was good. Had lunch at the Inn. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the service was very quick and the food delicious. We will definitely go there again.
Stout shoes are needed. I had left my walking boots at our accomodation so in my flipflops my feet got somewhat wet and dirty.

Tarr steps is a wonderful peaceful hidden place which i was taken to as a child + go back whenever i can to escape the world !! even my daughter when in her troubled teens could keep the demons of teenage life at bay when she was there . The total lack of commercialization is so refreshing !!!

One of our favourite places on Exmoor. The service at Tarr Steps Farm we have always found is excellent and the staff friendly. A lovely place to sit and reflect and to watch the world go by.

We came upon the Tarr steps a few days ago whilst touring round Exmoor from our base at Brompton Regis. It is a beautiful and typical part of this region with it's wooded steep sided valley and wildlife. We didn't know much about the steps themselves and thought they might be 19th Century until I went on the Internet and discovered they are much older. We didn't stay around to sample the delights of the Tarr steps farm but were treated (as was everyone else there) to the spectacle of a brave tourist in a saloon car attempt to cross the river. He made it, but at what cost to his engine and back axle we could only imagine. Steam was rising from the bonnet and the noise from the stones scraping the underside of car set my teeth on edge.
