The walk goes through a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is a Nature Reserve. The sign near the Pill Box at Shinglehead Point clearly states that the headland (not the path) is out of bounds during the nesting season for the months of May, June and July.
You can continue beyond the point for a circular walk round Wick Marshes and return to Tollesbury turn right just beyond where the old Tollesbury branch railway extended to a former pier into the Blackwater estuary opposite Bradwell Power Station. Circular walk around 5.5 miles.
I would say that walk from Car park to Shinglehead Point and return is more than 3 miles. In the summer there is long grass on top of the levee.
