Comment about the Viewing Platform, Woodhouse Eaves, Charnwood Forest, Leicestershire

I used to live in Victoria Road during the war and i remember seeing the old windmill in flames in 1945. Later I remember collecting pieces of molten lead from the ruins of the mill base and my father melting them down to make a keel for a pond yacht he was building at the time. As a child I spent many happy hours playing on the rocks on Windmill Hill which I last visited in the late fifties before the viewing platform was developed. I return to the village occasionally but sadly am no longer able to walk up to the viewing platform.

Was there when it burnt down. Went the little school. Lived in an old cottage.. no bathroom tin bath in front of the range... gas lighting.... toilet down the garden... it was like going back an era.... lots of fond memories. Lived in a cottage behind a Victorian house of I think the main road. Farm was opposite the house..
