Harwich (6), Essex, England

Walking south on the sea wall from Harwich past the long breakwater running out to sea will, after about a mile, bring you into Dovercourt. A pleasant walk on a sunny day to this traditional English seaside resort with a sandy beach.

The two Dovercourt lighthouses are the most prominent features of the seafront. Erected by Trinity House in 1863, they were used until 1917, guiding ships around Landguard Point with their powerful gas lamps. The deep-water channel is now marked by buoys.
Very much like the pair at Harwich there is a tall one at the back and a short one forward of that. Whereas both the lighthouses at Harwich are on the land one of these is on the beach and the shorter one actually in the sea.

This view is from near the lighthouse looking north towards Harwich. The large cranes visible on the skyline are on the other side of the river in the port of Felixstowe opposite Harwich.
Dovercourt has, as you can see, a nice sandy beach and is the sort of place you'd come for sea and sand but not much else.
