Lincoln Castle (2), Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England

The interior of Cobb Hall, one of the towers built in the 13th century, gives access to the castle wall walk. This was used as the castle's prison for many centuries.
You may notice the wooden framework on the left surrounding a hole in the floor. This gives access to the lower chamber - if you dare!

The only way that we could see of getting into this chamber is down that very steep ladder through a rather narrow opening at the top in Cobb Hall. This would lead me to believe that this was the castle dungeon with only one, difficult, way out.

The Crown Court at the west end of the Inner Bailey, built in the late 1800s, is still used today as a court house.

This tree stump was carved by a local artist and shows some of the castle's turbulent history. All the figures on the stump are people who have visited or lived in the castle including William the Conqueror.
