Around Neal's Yard, Covent Garden, London

This is one of the entrances, in Monmouth Street, to Neal's Yard and probably wouldn't draw a second glance from those not in the know. Passing by this innocuous entrance would be a mistake and you would miss a very colourful experience.

Almost opposite the other entrance to Neal's Yard is the entrance to Cucumber Alley in Shorts Gardens.
What I think has happened here is that the old buildings around here have been demolished to make way for a new development but because Cucumber Alley was already there as a public right of way it had to be re-instated and has been made into a shopping arcade which now runs between Shorts Gardens, this end, and Shelton Street at the far end.

A short distance north-east of Neal's Yard and Cucumber Alley is the Cross Keys pub in Endell Street. This is a Victorian pub and if you think that it looks a little over decorated outside then wait until you get inside.
It is very, very popular and, consequently, crowded. We also understand that the lunchtime food and beer is good although we haven't sampled either.
