They do go in for mega-hedges in this garden. These 300 year old hedges are up to 40-50 feet high and are trimmed in late summer; a job that takes 10 weeks.
Before the advent of power tools trimming the hedges used to take 10 men a full four months.

The Bothy Cottage is let by the National Trust as a holiday cottage and is situated in the Edwardian formal gardens below the castle and baroque terraces.
