This is the interior of the Orangery which was probably constructed in the late 17th century but has later alterations. It is built mostly of brick with some stone dressings.

They do go in for mega-hedges in this garden. These 300 year old hedges are up to 40-50 feet high and are trimmed in late summer; a job that takes 10 weeks.

Before the advent of power tools trimming the hedges used to take 10 men a full four months.

The Bothy Cottage is let by the National Trust as a holiday cottage and is situated in the Edwardian formal gardens below the castle and baroque terraces.
