St. John Maddermarket Alley, Norwich, Norfolk, England, Great Britain
Norwich, Norfolk.

The St. John Maddermarket Alley. As with St. Gregory's Church on the previous page the church was built across an existing path so a tunnel was provided through the base of the church tower in order to maintain access.

Tombland Alley, Norwich, Norfolk, England, Great Britain
Norwich, Norfolk.

Tombland Alley which runs from Tombland, just outside the cathedral's Erpingham Gate, under Augustine Steward's house to Princes Street.

'Tomb' in this context has no connection with a grave; it's an old Saxon term for an open place or market.

Lower Goat Lane, Norwich, Norfolk, England, Great Britain
Norwich, Norfolk.

Lower Goat Lane, another of Norwich's narrow picturesque medieval streets, starts in St. Giles Street and runs into Pottergate. It has a good selection of yet more shops. There is also, of course, an Upper Goat Lane running parallel to this one.
