Pin Mill
This view was from next to the Butt and Oyster looking down river towards Felixstowe. There are a number of small boatyards here and, going by the number of small craft about, it's a popular boating centre.

This view shows the whole of the Butt and Oyster with the tables, parasols and benches outside with the entrance to the car park past the right end of the building. The benches near the camera are for public use. During high spring tides yachtsmen can be served their drinks from the windows of the pub whilst still aboard their boats. The 'Butt' in Butt and Oyster is another name for a Fluke - a flatfish.

This another of the riverside properties and the view is down river towards Felixstowe. If some of these properties were any closer to the river they'd be boats! There are a couple of public footpaths running parallel to the river in both directions if you want to explore. I can't tell you what they're like as we didn't try them.

On our way back up the lane to Chelmondiston we came across this chap stomping up the lane. He is a male Stag Beetle (Lucarnus cervus) our largest British beetle and fairly rare. They appear only in the latter half of June. The large fearsome looking jaws or antlers are purely for show and cannot inflict any sort of damage. Like all beetles they can fly and do so frequently although this chap was obviously in a walking mood. Amanda picked him up and moved him onto the verge away from the danger of passing cars.
