Jevington from Windover Hill, Alfriston, Sussex, England, Great Britain
The South Downs.

Coming down Windover Hill we get a glimpse of Jevington which is now not far below. The church tower can just be seen poking up above the trees.

St. Andrew's Church, Jevington, Sussex, England, Great Britain
The South Downs.

St. Andrew's Church has a Saxon tower, built during King Alfred's reign, with walls around 3 feet thick, the nave roof is typical of the Tudor period and the north aisle and chancel date from the early 13th century.

A swivelling gate, Jevington, Sussex, England, Great Britain
The South Downs.

At the Eastern entrance to the churchyard is this rather interesting Tapsell Gate, a design unique to Sussex, which swivels on a central pivot. It is one of only six surviving in the county.

If you leave the churchyard via this gate and follow the path you cannot miss the next point of interest.

The Eight Bells Inn, Jevington, Sussex, England, Great Britain
The South Downs.

The Eight Bells Inn is the next point of interest especially after a long, hot walk along the South Downs Way. This inn is between 200 and 300 years old and provides some excellent food. We can vouch for that having had lunch there after walking over from Alfriston.
