On Firle Beacon, South Downs, Sussex

Sheep grazing on the Downs, Sussex, England, Great Britain
The South Downs.

Sheep grazing on the Downs between Alfriston and Firle Beacon. They are obviously used to seeing walkers up here as one can pass by within a few feet and they barely notice.

The view is from the path along the ridge, just showing on the left, and looking north-west across the Weald.

The View towards the Coast, Sussex, England, Great Britain
The South Downs.

This view is from the ridge between Alfriston and Firle Beacon but this time south towards the sea.

The apparently flat ground between the high gound on the left and the high ground on the right is the shore at Cuckmere Haven. Distance in a straight line to Cuckmere haven is 4 miles.

The South Downs reaches the coast around the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head.

The Firle Beacon Ridge, Sussex, England, Great Britain
The South Downs.

This view is on the ridge between Alfriston and Firle Beacon but this time looking back towards Alfriston. It gives a good idea of the number of sheep there are up here.

This slope is part of the final climb towards the top of Firle Beacon.

On top of Firle Beacon, Sussex, England, Great Britain
The South Downs.

Walking from Alfriston, a distance of just over two miles and a climb of about 670 feet, brings you to the top of Firle Beacon at just over 700 feet. This view is looking back along the path and the ridge seen in the distance is Windover Hill.

On a clear sunny day there is a wonderful 360 degree view from up here of which quite a good chunk is coast.
