Just below the top of Windover Hill and above the Wilmington Long Man (the funny white sqiggles in the shadow) looking north towards the little village of Wilmington.

Seen from the village of Wilmington the view of the Long Man looks much better in the late afternoon or early evening when he is lit by the sun.

The Long Man, Wilmington, Sussex, England   The South Downs.

Wilmington is a small village about 3 miles from Alfriston on the other side of the Cuckmere Valley. The Long Man is best viewed from the small free car park at the southern edge of the village which is where this picture was taken.

The figure is 227 feet high and is, purportedly, the tallest representation of a human figure in the world. There is no actual evidence available to date it.

View of the path above the Wilmington Long Man on Windover Hill, Sussex, England   The South Downs.

This is the path that passes directly above the Wilmington Long Man. The slope here is very steep and the fence is to stop you falling down it.

Notice the terracing effect on the sunlit slope caused by soil creep down the steep slope.
