Hughenden Yard is one of a number of narrow alleys off the High Street and this one now contains a number of small shops. This view is looking out towards the High Street through the arch at the far end.

The 17th Century Merchants House, built for Thomas Bayly, is in the High Street and is open to the public. It is one of the best examples of the merchants houses in Marlborough built after the great fire in 1653.
The Merchant's House shop occupies the ground floor of this building and profits made from the shop are donated to the restoration fund and the shop is staffed predominantly by volunteers which offer customers a valuable insight into what they are trying to achieve.

The River Kennet is one of England's most important chalk streams, some 45 miles long, it is the largest tributary of the Thames. It's source is near Avebury so by the time it has reached Marlborough it has travelled only about 7 miles.
