Anglesey Abbey (3), Lode, Cambridgeshire, England

A walk around inside the house is certainly worth while and there are some lovely rooms but the National Trust will persist in having curtains drawn across all the windows. We understand why they do it but we don't have to like it as it rather spoils the effect.

This formal garden, just to one side of the house, does have a good variety of roses with around 2,000 rose plants in 41 beds making a attractive display of colours and scent.

This garden is a little farther from the house than the Rose Garden and is planted with Hyacinths in Spring and Dwarf Dahlias for the Summer season (when we were there).

Anglesey Abbey was turned into a country house in the 17th century and this Jacobean facade dates from that time.
The Rose Garden is just beyond the hedge on the left.
