We stayed at this 17th century coaching inn for the duration of our visit to this area in September 2001. It is situated no more than five minutes walk from the town centre going past Raynald's Mansion on the way.
There is a large car park immediately to the rear of the hotel with a rear entrance to the bar which doubles as reception. This is a rather nice cosy little bar. The staff were all very pleasant throughout our stay.
Our room was en-suite (I understand that most rooms are but not all) and was not a large room. Providing en-suite facilities in an historic building such as this is a problem because the structure cannot be changed substantially. So the bathroom is built in the corner of an originally much larger room and because of this storage space was limited although it was comfortable, well decorated, well furnished and quite acceptable for the price range.
The dining room is a pleasant room and the service was prompt. The food was good traditional food and there were prodigious amounts of it.
We can recommend this inn. The Gaskell Arm's own page
