Stourhead Garden (2), Stourton, Warminster, Wiltshire

Another of the many different vistas across the lake. This one shows the Palladian Bridge in the distance through the trees. The woodland walks are superb, strolling through mature woods planted with a variety of exotic trees some of which are impressively tall.

The Temple of Apollo seen from the opposite side of the lake. The view from the temple of Appollo has been described as one of the most picturesque scenes in the world but that could be said of many of the views in this garden.

This subsidiary chamber is part of the Grotto, adjoining the main chamber, and is dimly lit by daylight through a tiny hole in the roof which shows a statue of a river god sitting on an urn.
The main chamber is much larger and features a statue of Ariadne lying on a marble plinth over which water cascades into a pool.

The Grotto is, of course, very dimly lit and this opening, as well as providing some light, shows the lake and the Palladian Bridge from within the main chamber.
