Stourhead Garden (3), Stourton, Warminster, Wiltshire
The thatched Gothic Cottage, originally known as the 'Watch Cottage', allows the occupants, and anyone sitting on the seats outside, a splendid view across the lake. It surprises the visitor on first discovery, as it is obscured by trees on either side, and comes into view only at the last moment.

Originally called the Temple of Hercules the garden's largest building, the Pantheon, is a rather grand structure which can be seen from all corners of the garden.

This view of the Pantheon gives, perhaps, a better idea of it's size and shape.

The magnificent Temple of Apollo, or Temple of the sun, was the final addition to Stourhead Garden in 1765. It dominates the top of a hill overlooking the lake and gardens and was based on a temple in Syria.
