Ingleborough Cave (1), Clapham, Yorkshire Dales, England

This photograph was taken a short distance in from the entrance door and you can see the path on the right and the little stream on the left. The visit is self-guided; that is you can wander around at your own pace and leave when you choose.

A large, rounded calcite flow with stalactites hanging from the roof and there is yet more decoration in the background.

This shows more of the stream passage with calcite growths including more stalactites of various sizes and the figure of Amanda gives the scale of the passage.
If you are wondering why Amanda is holding a sheet of paper it is because you are given a waterproof sheet before you enter which explains the numbered features as you move through the cave.

The large calcite flow, on the other side of the stream, which Amanda is facing is called 'The Beehive' and its reflection can be seen in the stream below. This must have taken many thousands of years to form and, of course, is still growing.
The large stalagtite pointing at Amanda's head is called the 'Sword of Damocles'.

This is a closer view of the 'Sword of Damocles' which is over 7 feet long.
Notice the coloured layers in the calcite at the top, right of the 'Sword of Damocles' and the other numerous stalactites round about.

The stream can be seen bottom right below this amazing show of coloured calcite flows from pink in the foreground, through yellow to green beyond.
There are also numerous stalactites.

This formation is known as the 'Elephant's Legs and Tail'. The elephants legs are two spectacularly large calcite columns which meet the calcite dome below.
